Volleyball Coach Bio

I love the sport of volleyball.  I learned it for the first time in high school at a summer church camp from my cousin Rochelle and a youth pastor that played on a men's College team in North Dakota in the mid-nineties.  I loved it so much, I played recreationally while in college, organized league teams, and helped out with my High School girls summer clinic one summer while in Community College.  I also would travel up to Calgary to play at the Volleydome and in tournaments up there.  I wrapped up my Associates degree in Kalispell at Flathead Valley Community College, but before finishing a degree at the University of Montana. I was ready for a change of scenery academically.  Early in my selection of where to go to college, I looked at few different faith-based Universities but was excited to learn about an opportunity to play volleyball in Canada (at Prairie Bible College).  I enrolled as part of a One year Sports Ministry Program with Volleyball as my chosen sport).  I attended a 10 day conference that summer, and met with the coach and I worked out with the team.  He had played with the Canadian national team but had come back to his hometown to sow into his local community.  It was a fantastic opportunity to play men's volleyball at the college level.  To my regret, some things fell through (financially) in the weeks leading up to school starting, and  I made a last minute decision to defer attending Prairie in favor of finishing my business degree at the University of Montana.  Prairie made some changes to their personnel and programs over the next two years and when I was ready to reevaluate coming back it didn't offer the same opportunity I had walked away from. So for the next 15 years or so, I played recreationally where I could in the various places I lived (Denver, CO, Tulsa, OK). I didn't pursue coaching until my wife and I moved back to Montana and started our kids in school in Missoula. We heard about a need at Valley Christian for a coach for the 6th,7th and 8th graders and I was offered the opportunity in 2018 and had a very successful season for a first time coach. The 2019 season, I took a break from coaching but my goal was to move up to High School.  The Covid Pandemic changed everything for a couple of seasons and the timing did not seem right to move up to high school coaching so I focused on other pursuits.  In 2022, I helped again with the 8th grade team as an assistant coach and then as the Junior Varsity coach in 2023.  In 2024, I worked with Zootown Volleyball for the first time and coached a 12's team.  2025 has been focused on attending coaching clinics and building an online presence for coach-athlete mentoring.  I also coached a 7th and 8th grade team for CS Porter in the early fall.  I am passionate about the sport of volleyball and continue to grow as a coach as well as an athlete myself.  I look forward to helping you on your journey in volleyball and welcome you to check out the skills and mental training modalities I offer.
